not needing licenses for restore means nothing about having the software
be able to run on a current machine.

ie: can you restore on a box 5-10 years from now when you can't find the
software and can't get it to run on any modern os/hardware? no.

that's the value of being able to get to the code.


*that* is a different problem -- records archiving is a huge can-o- worms.

Remember, not only do you have to restore the files from "way back when", you also need to have software that's compatible with using them still running in your shop :)
