You can get the last time anything in the volume was modified, if that
helps:
$ vos ex root.cell | grep Last
Last Update Wed Mar 12 17:08:23 2008
Which I do not believe is forgeable from a client; at least, not easily,
and it's certainly not common knowledge like altering timestamps with
`touch` is.
