Can you elaborate any on the disk cache problems? I assume this was likely because the backing filesystem was not ext3?
The work Marc Dionne has done in the 1.5.x branch has removed the historical issues with non-ext3 filesystems. It should be possible to use the cache manager from the development branch with any Linux file system.
