Notice how the example explicitly specifies the namespace
("OpenBabel::OBConversion") which you did not do in your original code (where
it just says "OBConversion"). This causes the first compilation error
(main.cpp:7: error: ‘OBConversion’ was not declared in this scope) and the rest
is probably just a result from not being able to recover from that error. This
is standard C++ behavior for namespaces. If you create the object exactly as
done in the example, the original issue should be gone. Alternatively, you
could declare
using namespace OpenBabel;
somewhere at the top of the file.
