Not sure if this will help, but I have found - with my PostgreSQL 
database at least - that some db columns will throw a type conversion 
error within OpenBD CFQUERY tags.

By switching from SELECT * to a select statement that lists individual 
columns instead; I've been able to swap individual columns in and out 
until I find the offending data element.

In many cases, I can fix the problem by converting the output with a SQL 
function before the JDBC driver or OpenBD even get the result.

Plus, many DBAs have told me that SELECT * is just a bad idea in general.
