I see the communications departments of large firms that still apply the 
"deadline & publish issue" print paradigm to their web projects, because 
that's the model they were forced into by tangible printing plates and 
newsletter postage costs. Even though they could now publish new info as 
soon as they really wanted to; the human system just isn't there yet.

For this thread: I wonder if the former tangibles that once restricted 
commerical software to major releases (not just stabilizing the code, 
but the cost to master and dupe all those CD's, print manuals and pack a 
warehouse full of glossy boxes, etc); is a legacy influence to which 
many large firms find too hard (or too scary) to change.

If they could, we might find ourselves quite willing to pay $100 per 
month for continued access to support, monthly candidates & releases; 
instead of $2400 every two years for something with a new CF logo and 
whole number on it.
