Ok,

Bit.ly asks you to drag their "simple bookmarklet" to the bookmark bar in
firefox.

So I did that, and it gives you a button that you can press to auto generate
a bit.ly address.

With the favorites link I showed early, I can drag that to the bookmark bar
in firefox, just the same, and it works.

So, having said that, I'm not sure what the difference is?

In firefox, go to Details.at

You can drag the "right click here to create favorite" up to the bookmark
tab and it works too. Just click it, and it creates a shortened url.

Can you confirm this works for you?
