I just got a decent hosting deal with my host for a Linux VPS and I
wanted to ask a question to the people here regarding your
experiences.

I currently have a Windows 2008 64bit VPS for my primary windows host
and wanted to have another "application server" that was exclusively
dedicated to running my cfml sites (basically, Open BlueDragon with an
occasional Railo app thrown in for giggles and grins to test it).

The reason I am bringing it up here is that I am sure there are other
individuals that would like to read about potential issues with using
either server OS and also possible "gotchas" that could be avoided and
also look for suggestions to make their prod/dev/whatever environment
more effective.
I've already been to the OpenBD wiki install page:
http://wiki.openbluedragon.org/wiki/index.php/Category:Installation
Which answers some questions in an excellent manner.

But I'm looking to to hear from you all. This post will also most
likely end up there as an update to the installs page for potential
installation considerations.

Also, just a backgrounder for you on what I want to do:
I am in the process of building an N-Tier system that will have
separate VPS servers for Windows (.NET apps & various others), CFML on
Linux (Mainly OpenBD, but also Railo when possible), and PostgreSQL on
Linux for my DB server. I REALLY despise MySQL and will be completely
jumping over to PostgreSQL as my DB of choice since I don't want
neither Oracle nor M$ getting into my DB grits any more (MS SQL DBA
and Oracle dabbler). This is what I've come up with for my future and
I leave it here as a suggestion for any of you to consider if you want
to do it for yourself. Especially since N-Tier is the "religion"
preached when you want to go to a more practical environment and VPSs
are getting less expensive and much more capable as time goes on and
now that OpenBD/Railo are absolutely phenomenal alternatives to ACF
for your CFML application server.

Thanks for your comments when you post them!
Tom
