There isn't a CFML function, but i see where there is a function in my
libraries i can expose.
I will do this evening and give you a couple of functions to easily do this.

Out of curosity why are you queuing and not just processing as they come in?
The thing with SMTP is that you have a wonderful inbuilt throttling system
built in as MTA agents will back off and auto-try again if it can't get to
deliver its message. By default we accept 20 concurrent mail connections at
once
