Just a note on replacing the files. Yes, keep a backup of the files but also, make sure to completely replace the lib folder since there's upgraded jar files in there that doesn't replace the old they just get added due to version number info in the filename... that way you might run into problem having different version of the same jar loaded... Been there Done that :)
