Short list of what we need (yes, there's stuff out there; if i mention it here it's because what's out there sucks IMO): * wiki (Alan started on one way back in the day ... time to share that code!) * forums Where we need improvement: * blog (MangoBlog is the closest thing to a "real" blogging app we have; quite nice but could use updating) * frameworks (Alan and others will disagree, but a Django/Grails/Rails type tool, CLI and all, will go a LONG way in terms of perception) * more contributions from more people (pick a project and get involved!) Where I think we're in good shape: * CMS (honestly we didn't need the couple of new ones that popped up recently; we should all get behind Mura) What we don't need more of: * wrappers for wrappers (e.g. another YouTube CFC that just wraps the YouTube API) * new frameworks * abandonware (guilty of this myself) As you can imagine I have a million thoughts on this but that's the short version. Curious to hear what others think. -- Matthew Woodward [email protected] http://blog.mattwoodward.com identi.ca / Twitter: @mpwoodward Please do not send me proprietary file formats such as Word, PowerPoint, etc. as attachments. http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/no-word-attachments.html -- online documentation: http://openbd.org/manual/ http://groups.google.com/group/openbd?hl=en
