A fix has been made for the issue you where seeing with the tag
cfcaptcha and will be available tomorrow in the nightly build.
Also the manual for the tag cfcaptcha has been updated and will be live
tomorrow.

Hey, so I have the need for captcha, and figured I'd take a look at
cfcaptcha instead of rolling my own, and at least on OpenBD Desktop
(2.0.2, 3.0 and 3.1) the CFCaptchaEngine returns blank with a few
empty lines.
Granted, I may have missed something since the docs are empty for this
command, but it's not throwing any errors.
Here's the code I'm testing: <cfcaptcha width="400" height="100"
displaystring="bob">
Just shows a broken image, and when checking source and clicking the
file it's just empty.
Anyone know what's going on?
