Hi guys, I know there are several iBook users on this list so I thought I'd ask here first before going to the ppc@ list.
I have G3 600Mhz iBook (i.e. PowerBook4,3 , full dmesg at end of message), running the March 26th snapshot. When I start X, the screen goes blank and the machine locks. X does appear to start (there are several X processes running in ps, like xterm and xclock (I don't have the ps output handy right now)) but the screen is blank and the keyboard unresponsive. I am still able to SSH into it from another machine, and can kill the xinit process, which gets me back to the commandline with a screen full of lines that I have to clear. I've first noticed this problem in early January (the iBook has worked fine with 4.0 -release and the snapshots until that point), but never got around to investigating it fully (I figured I had mangled something trying to install the Xenocara package). I finally did a full, clean reinstall and the problem persists. I know that there was a known issue with some machines (including mine) not starting properly if the xorg.conf file did not exist, so I ran 'X -configure' (without the xorg.conf I would get "connection to server broken" messages). The iBook locked up with the new xorg.conf so I uncommented the Option "iBookHacks"line to no avail . I tried the one Otto posted in http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-misc&m=111989759117198&w=2 (I just commented out the Option "MonitorLayout" line) but it also did not work. Does anyone have a working xorg.conf file for this iBook? I can provide the Xorg.0.log file on request. A couple of notes about the log file: - there are quite a few messages like the one below, for all the possible screen resolutions: (II) RADEON(0): Not using default mode "800x600" (hsync out of range) - this is the last message in the log file while X is running: (**) RADEON(0): RADEONSaveScreen(2) Thanks, Marius PS. I'm only subscribed to the daily digest, so please CC me on your response.
