Hi, I am pretty new to wifi stuff. I have a ThinkPad R51 with iwi (intel pro wireless 2200BG i think). I have downloaded the firmware and its in /etc/firmware. Now when I 'ifconfig iwi0 xx.xx.xx.xx netmask xx.xx.xx.xx' the wifi LED doesn't lit up. From the man page, it says that bringing the interface will automagically load the firmware. Doesn't that mean that the LED should light up ? Also on Damien B's discontinued page[1] it says that all centrino laptop's have a transmitter of some kind. But I don't have a switch/knob to switch it ON on my laptop. Now how do I switch it ON ? I remember when I was using FreeBSD, the wifi LED used to light up on loading the firmware. So am a bit confused here. Am I doing something wrong ? Or does my laptop use a software switch as described on Damien B's page[1], which is not currently not supported ? If so how come it worked on Free and not on Open as they use the same firmware ? If someone is using an R51 and has experience using wifi on OpenBSD, please help me. TIA.
