If it prints a test page, that is inspiring. Perhaps your input filter
is expecting postscript but mutt is sending plain text.  So you need a
filter that can either
1) convert plain text to postscript, and then pipe that into your
existing filter which works already
2) convert plain text to your printer's control language.

I'd be willing to bet that (1) will be easier to setup.  What you
might have to do is create a new "printer" in /etc/printcap that
prints text, and use the other currently working "printer" to print
postscript (from your browser, for example).  I have done this before,
it is not terribly tricky but does require some patience if you are
doing it for the first time.

I looked at muttprint, it uses LaTeX, which is a very large piece of
software (see teTeX or teXLive in ports) and is probably not something
you want to install if you are trying to save disk space.
