  I've tryied to build cvs version on Sarge system but it fails while
installing in build dir. Perhaps some Makefile is missing $(DESTDIR).

and BTW, I think debian libssl0.9.7d includes bug mentioned at
http://cvs.openssl.org/chngview?cn=12081
Alessandro, could you submit this bug to libopenssl maintainer.
