1) Perhaps it is a problem of OpenSSL. If you have an (old) stable
OpenSSL (0.9.6) then you should try the same with the old OpenSSL. The
snapshots are sometimes a little bit buggy. Massimiliano recommends
20011108+ and he knows OpenSSL really good (he write patches for it).

2) The private key is defect.
