Can you give a link for the last release of OpenCA?
ftp://ftp.openca.org/pub/openca/developers/bell/releases/

I compile Openssl with --prefix (option) then it has been installed in
/usr/local/ssl/ (and lib & Include copied to /usr/lib & /usr/include )
But I can recompile Openssl with --prefix=/usr/local/openssl
Sorry, if you compile OpenSSL with --prefix=/usr then the binary is in /usr/bin too and you overwrite the 0.9.6 libs and includes. The default installation installs all in /usr/local/ssl - libs in /usr/local/ssl/lib and includes in /usr/local/ssl/include).

If you compile OpenSSL with --prefix=/usr/local/openssl then you must set --with-openssl-prefix=/usr/local/openssl if you configure OpenCA.

What version of Openssl are you using ?
openssl-0.9.7-stable-SNAP-20021104
