I didn't apply that patch, what I did was to:
- Install OpenSSL 0.9.8
- Configure UTF8 in config.xml
- Run configure_etc.sh
Now everything runs perfect regarding UTF-8, but You
should do first, as it is obvious, a backup of your
conf files. Then do the steps mentioned above and then
overwrite your new token.xml (maybe others too?
ca.conf?) with your old file(s).
I don't know if this could work, but you could try it.

Well, I don't know about this, I know the HSM takes
the path of OpenSSL from token.xml, so the idea that
comes into my ming is that you could try changing the
path in the other interfaces (LDAP, ra, node, etc) to
OpenSSL 0.9.8. But I guess this could lead to other
problems.
