Alain : What will you do if HC3 eventually comes out ? Will you drop OODL ?
> Uli : Their fault if they aren't honest to us, ya know?
Alain : Indeed. They may never OFFICIALLY announce HyperCard's death.
> Uli : BTW, it could also become an improved UI for other HyperCard clones.
Alain : You are talking about the OpenCard GUI, right ?
> Uli : Didn't we have dozens of people who complained about MetaCard's and
> SuperCard's UIs?
Alain : Yes, fairly or not, MANY list members on several lists have deplored
the user-interfaces of MC and SC. These unfavourable reviews have since
prompted many HyperCard lovers to explain why HyperCard is a better UI than
the rest. It has even prompted Scott Raney to offer OODL and UFP a licence to
use his MetaCard Engin, free of charge, for the purpose of prototyping
OpenCard's UI, without waiting for our own OODL engin in order to proceed
with the UI. What do you think of Scott's proposition ?
> Uli : This sounds like a typical UFP job to me: Come up with a cool UI for
> xTalk clones, ...
Alain : In my view (changeable), OODL is working on the HC-like app ( engin
and UI ), the xTalk folks are working on the scripting language, and the UFP
are scripting end-user solutions and powerful but user-friendly development
tools ( stacks, handlers, externals, ... ). Overall, however, these divisions
are NOT hermetic, nor would we want them to be. There should be some
"cross-fertilization" between these groups for maximum impact.
> Uli : ... and implement them in all 3 languages.
Alain : Which languages do you speak of ?
1. HyperTalk, SuperTalk and MetaTalk ?
2. C++, Java and PERL ?
> Uli : Anyone care to ask the HyperCard list for supporters?
Alain : Supporters of what ? Augment the membership of one or more of our
groups ?
