Dear Chipper,
Started getting these a few days ago.

    Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
 Recipient: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   Subject: Fwd: a subject
 MessageID: x82xbx108615
Report: MailScanner: Could not analyze message

The message in question has a few gifs and a
few tifs and some lite html content.

Nothing fancy, not even very big, about 20K.

Older versions of MailScanner sent this admin alert mail, if the mail has too many attachments exceeding the maximum attachment limit. Too many attachments is one of the causes for the failure to parse a mail into its MIME structure and attachments. Other reasons may be broken MIME mails with or without attachments.

Latest version of OpenProtect modifies the warning in case of too many attachments:

This is a message from the OpenProtect E-Mail Virus Protection Service
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The original e-mail attachment "the entire message"
was believed to be infected by a virus and has been replaced by this warning
message.

If you wish to receive a copy of the *infected* attachment, please
e-mail helpdesk and include the whole of this message
in your request. Alternatively, you can call them, with
the contents of this message to hand when you call.

At Fri Sep 3 00:57:00 2004 the virus scanner said:
   Too many attachments in message
   Too many attachments in message

and for admin alert:

Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
IP Address: 127.0.0.1
 Recipient: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   Subject: test attach 5
 MessageID: i82JQcSx007872
Report: Too many attachments in message
            Too many attachments in message

What version of OpenProtect are you using?

cheers,
Karthikeyan, S.
