Dear Scott Heisler,
I'd like to use more databases for spam lookups. Does anyone have a good list of free services that they could share with the group? Bayes is ok, but still having way to much spam get through, so I thought I'd increase the number of databases used for lookups.
You can find a list of RBL servers at http://www.declude.com/Articles.asp?ID=97
You can add them to the /etc/MailScanner/spam.lists.conf file in the following syntax:
acronym RBL-Server
For eg, for Spamcop.net RBL server, the line added would like:
SPAMCOP bl.spamcop.net.
Remember to put the trailing "." at the end of "bl.spamcop.net" or whatever RBL server you're adding.
Now, in /etc/MailScanner/MailScanner.conf, set
Spam List = SPAMCOP ANOTHER-RBL1 ANOTHER-RBL2 ...
So, define the RBL you wish to use in /etc/MailScanner/spam.lists.conf and add it to the "Spam List" by referring to its acronym.
Run "openprotect restart" and now, you're using the new RBL server. Also, it would be wiser to take a look at the "Description" column of all the RBLs at http://www.declude.com/Articles.asp?ID=97, before adding them to the "Spam List".
Please note that the default "Spam List = ORDB-RBL SBL+XBL spamcop.net" is more than enough under most conditions. So. if you really feel like trying, make sure the RBL you're trying to use is still active and not a dead one like "OSIRUSOFT-SPEWS spews.relays.osirusoft.com.".
