Hi Ron-
CVS is source.  For binaries you have to
aclocal
autoheader
autoconf
automake
./configure
make
make install
(then and only then do the same procedure for dxsamples).
We're working towards 4.1.0 binaries (due about last Christmas?) pending the
outcome of tests like yours.
