I have seen this same problem with gcc 2.95.2. It appears to be a
problem with optimization. If you remove the -O2 switch from the
CFLAGS in the Makefile when compiling this file, it will complete. It
is a compiler bug, so I don't think there is anything we can do about
the problem.

THe new libtool branch does not build on a RH8.0 box because the
compiler hangs on compiling zclipQ.c which has not changed in a
while so I am guessing it is in one of the includes.
