Possibly the particular interactor instance had "typed" itself from a
previous entry. For example, in Selector (which you didn't mention), if you
start a list of values (left hand side, normally the integer indices) with
integers (the normal situation), then try to enter a string on the left
hand side, you get an error. But if you clear the list out, then you can
enter strings on both sides (values and labels) if you like. You can find
the "type =" info in a saved net file: I believe it's a bitfield converted
to decimal so tends to have entries that look like powers of 2 or
thereabouts.
