Why is the packaging not just to ear simply ?
I can't remember other than I had a hard time getting something
around it to work right.
You can switch it and see what happens.
I think it may have been something like if the type was ear maven
wouldn't include it in the classpath when you declare a dependency on
it. I don't fully recall.
If you poke at it make sure you delete the jar version from your
local repo while testing.
