Not sure if it is different on VS2008, but with cmake and VS2010 I had
almost no problem with 2.0.1. There was no need to modify the files you
mentioned.
I used cmake gui for setup and the creation of the VS solution and was
able to create the static as well as a dll build.

1. manually added PLATFORM_WINDOWS to all of the project defines
2. manually added an include path for config.windows to Imath
3. tried adding the built path to Iex.lib to IlmThread and Imath but
there are still linker issues relating to missing Iex::ArgExc symbols
