I have an idea for a new set of tools/scripts that would run on linux and would:
1.Read the cg43 and cg52 from your phone
2.Mount those filesystems and make a copy of the data
3.Make the relavent edits to "free" your phone so it can run native apps and stuff
4.Create new cg43 and cg52
5.Flash those files back to the phone

Basically, it would be similar to what the iPhone guys are doing with their "jailbreaking". Once its done, you would be able to load native apps, shell scripts etc onto your phone easily.

Current possible hacks that could be applied (I have applied all these to my own phone except the skinning one and the launcher idea)
Enable FTP
Enable telnet
Enable usblan
Remount user phone memory and SD card without noexec (allowing native apps to run etc)
Add new menu with options to restart phone and to activate usblan
Support for running shell scripts
Changes to allow easier skin editing (skins coming from SD card or user phone memory) Launcher type thing as a script/native app/whatever that will make it easier to launch native apps without needing to edit the main menu all the time or whatever (may or may not be required) There may be others that can be done too in the future (e.g. as hacks to get around the digital signing of rootfs and kernel and such)

Anyone like this idea? Anyone (i.e. linux programmers) want to help? Anyone think its stupid?
