VMware ESX server 2.5.2 has this issue with 2.6 kernel based OS’s, of which Openfiler is one.  Try upgrading your server to ESX 2.5.3, where the 2.6 kernel is supported, and the problem will most likely go away.

A temporary workaround that I came up with was to put a cron job in /etc/cron.hourly that does this:

/etc/init.d/ntpd restart

That seems to resync the clock every hour, although that still might not be enough for AD authentication to accurately work.

YMMV,

Luke

Subject: [OF-users] An issue with time....

Hiya'll.

I am having a bizarre issue with Openfiler 2 Beta release.

I am running it in a VMware session, I have downloaded and installed the VMware image.  I managed (after much pulling of hair) to get the AD authentication to work - it was a problem with time syncronization.  I have since setup NTP synchronization between the Openfiler VMware session and the AD box.

However the bizarre issue I am having is that the openfiler VMware session can't keep it's time.  It's moving fowards faster than NTP can keep up, and NTP eventually gives up and "reverts" to local time.

I do not understand what is going on, none of the other VMware sessions on this box have the problem and the local clock is set correctly (and can hold it's time!).

Any suggestions welcome.

- Glenn.
