Hate to spam the list, but I assume people here are more intune with available products that most...

What I'm lookin for is a device that will allow me to connec to an iSCSI target LUN (such as one published on an Openfiler system) and present that to a Fibrechannel fabric as a FC storage device.   The reason is to leverage the mirroring capability of our legacy filer product to provide replication to a storage device accross a high-speed WAN.  I am not sure if it will even work, but it seemed worth a try.

So the idea is to have production filer and FC storage in corporate HQ, and setup mirroring within the device to another FC device in HQ, but on the back side of the mirror target, is an Openfiler box sitting at our D.R. site.

It accomplishes the goal of our mandated D.R. strategy, while eliminating the need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a "duplicate" of this legacy filer equipment and FC storage and the "replication" software module for the device just to have replication to our D.R. site.   In-box mirroring of only journaled snapshot data is an included feature of the equipment already.

A bit underhanded, but I like the idea :)  If a device like this doesn't exist, does anybody think I could make one with a Linux box?  I don't know much about HBAs but for some reason I just expect the technology isn't made to run "backwards" allowing an HBA to become an FC storage device target, no matter what, but I would love for someone to tell me otherwise !

ps- a drive in my personal Openfiler system had the death-click this morning... 4hrs later I vpn'ed into home and the hot spare is already rebuilt and the array out of degraded status without me lifting a finger.  I love my Openfiler =)
