Well this is a tough one!! I have been breaking my head over this for 3 days
now. I created a hardware raid array of 8 disks. I added one yesterday and grew
the array to nine disks. This all went fine. Now the weird thing comes.

My webadmin says in the Physical storage mgmt section that:

Edit partitions in /dev/sdb (3337859 cylinders with "gpt" label)

/dev/sdb1 Linux Physical Volume (0x8e) 1 1 2861020
2929684463 2793.96 GB Primary In use

Create a partition in /dev/sdb
You can use ranges within the following extents:

        Mode
        Starting cylinder
        Ending cylinder
        Space

        Primary
        2861021
        3337859
        465.66 GB

So the disk is added and ready to be used you might say, wrong!.

I can only create a partition of 1 cylinder!! And the current sdb1 cant be
expanded :-S

I used parted to create an extra partition and this said:

(parted) print
Disk geometry for /dev/sdb: 0.000-3337859.000 megabytes
Disk label type: gpt
Minor Start End Filesystem Name Flags
1 0.017 2861020.000 lvm
(parted) mkpart primary 2861021 3000000
Warning: You requested to create a partition at 2861021.000-3000000.000Mb. The
closest Parted can manage is 2861021.000-2861021.983Mb.
OK/Cancel? ok

So parted also sees the correct total megabytes?

Why can i not use my extra space???? This is really frustrating. Hope somebody
can help me out here as i am at a desperate point here, im at a total loss.

Thank you in advance,

Xander Witteveen
