Hi folks:

We have managed to get working OF 2.2 onto CF 4GB cards. We are supplying pre-built cards to our customers for our JackRabbit units. We will also supply OF 2.3 when it comes out formally. OF is patched up to the latest conary update from 4 weeks ago.

We would be happy to supply pre-loaded cards if users request it (contact me offline). The image doesn't seem to take on non-identical cards (had trouble with this).

Sounds interesting. Can you tell me/us why we would want to run OF of CF cards?

It allows you to use all your drives on your server for storage. It also frees you from worrying whether or not your driver for your RAID card (if you are using one) will let you boot without performing major surgery on OF. It is beneficial in that you can (easily) create bit-copied backups of your server config after installation with a simple "dd" command. This makes failure recovery fairly simple.

If none of these things are a concern for you, then you don't need it.

Thanks for the quick response :)
Good story. But if indeed a RAID controller is troublesome, how would running OF on CFs solve this? To use all drives in a server for storage, isnt support for that particulair controller still essential? For me only the last argument is interesting; I dont have hardware issues, but being able to recover quickly is most certainly a good thing! But then again, I will need to install a CF drive in my server, so I dont know what would be 'better'; make sure that your hardware is on a HCL, and possible avoid downtime caused by 'cheap' solutions, or recover quickly using non-compliant H/W. ;)
