I have visited the forums. I am sure the issue is more me. I am trying
to figure out the iScsi within Openfiler. I want to use the openfiler
as
an iScsi drive for my Server 2003. I am not sure how to set openfiler
up
to do this. There is an iScsi target and an iScsi initiator. I am new
to
NAS and iScsi.
What version of OF are you running? Sounds like a 2.3 beta. If so, I'd suggest running 2.2 because that is more stable and less error-prone (supposedly, lol). Also, try bottom post when you reply; this makes reading the discussion much easier...also, reply to the list so others can butt in at any
moment.

I called OF and talked to the people there and they suggested to used
2.3 beta 2. I was a little leery of this, but he said that the iScsi
protocol was much improved over v2.2. I had v2.2 loaded on ESX and was
working on setting it up, but could not find doc.
I thought I was emailing to the list. Sorry for the dumb questions, but
how do I email to entire list?

Thanks

Relax, there is no such thing as a dumb question ;)
Well, if the OF gods say to run 2.3 b2, then who am I to argue haha! Only thing is that the gui of the new 2.3 is quite different, so all hints and tips you will find will be based on 2.2 and earlier. Thats another reason I'd start with 2.2. Besides, for the moment you are only experimenting, right? As soon as you figured out how it works you can always reinstall using the latest (just my thoughts). I've done a real quick scan on the forum and you could try reading these threads from the iSCSI section:

https://forums.openfiler.com/viewtopic.php?id=1860

One last suggestion; if you are planning on making volumes larger than 2tb on OF, be very sure that they are labeled as GPT or you could be in for a treat ;) More details on this topic can be found and explained on the forum. Just search on GPT. Using iSCSI is really not that hard as it looks, you just need to know the steps on how to configure. Many people have asked the same question, now it is up to you to find the answer ;) Sorry to be so vague, but sending you a step-by-step howto would be way too much work...

Replying to the list is done easiest by replying to all. Just be sure that [email protected] is on the TO: line
If you need more specific help, just mail the list, or post on the forum.
