You want xz-utils, as was posted earlier in the thread, which is at: git://ctrl.tukaani.org/xz.git Your distribution may have a package for it. Those who haven't heard of xz may have heard of lzma-utils; xz is the new name, now that the file format has magic. It still uses the lzma algorithm for the actual compression. Most sites who had tried out using lzma already have started to switch to xz. One can expect lzma to die out as a file format, leaving gzip, bzip2 and xz as the three common formats.
