The problem is one can never know in what form the file arrives to disk. As
Lubos found out in http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec14.html some
proxies might decompress and some might leave the contents intact:

However, a non-transparent proxy MAY modify the content-coding if the    new
coding is known to be acceptable to the recipient, unless the    "no-transform"
cache-control directive is present in the message.
