  If you are doing a practice management system, I urge you to look at Tim Cook's 
FreePM (Free Practice Management) at www.freepm.org.  If you don't like to work with 
him, you can perhaps save some time by forking his code :-). (However, IMHO, Tim is 
very likable and great to work with.)
  Tim and I are going to be working on integrating FreePM with OIO so that when we add 
features (like CORBA, for example) to the OIO, FreePM will immediately become a 
distributed practice management system.  At the very least, we are working towards 
having metadata compatibility between FreePM, GEHR, and OIO.    I hope you will tell 
us what you like and don't like about FreePM/GEHR/OIO - even if you decide to start 
from scratch.
