If you're a software language tool vendor - then self interest.

Software tool companies like Borland, ISE etc. have an ongoing problem
of how to drive demand to get people to upgrade to the latest versions of
their tools - after all - by the time a compiler is stable enough to support
your
work there isn't much need to upgrade. Markets get saturated - so there
has to be a way to generate demand for new development tools.

.NET just like Java and XML is a new technology that could fuel a lot of
activity to sell more development tools - for Meyer's company ISE it's a
golden
opportunity to get people interested in Effel again and get them to upgrade
to the
latest .NET enabled Effel tools.
