Software tool companies like Borland, ISE etc. have an ongoing problem of how to drive demand to get people to upgrade to the latest versions of their tools - after all - by the time a compiler is stable enough to support your work there isn't much need to upgrade. Markets get saturated - so there has to be a way to generate demand for new development tools. .NET just like Java and XML is a new technology that could fuel a lot of activity to sell more development tools - for Meyer's company ISE it's a golden opportunity to get people interested in Effel again and get them to upgrade to the latest .NET enabled Effel tools.
