Some people have mentioned a lack of powerful open-source graphing tools to complement the statistical packages that are available. There is an excellent project called "Guppi" that is part of the Gnome work. Here's a link to the screenshots: http://gnome.dataplus.se/guppi/guppi-screenshots.html The cool part about Guppi is it's incredible flexibility. It is designed to be used standalone, or embedded in other applications, or controlled via Corba (Gnome uses ORBit), or controlled via a scripting language of your choice. If you're looking for a graphing/plotting tool, give this one a look. For those of you interested in cross-platform functionality, the whole Gnome team is rapidly progressing towards cross-platform versions of the fundamental Gnome libraries (ie - GLib, GTK, GObject, Bonobo, etc.).
