Yes, I have been there. From an architectural point of view
the requirement to have CORBA services and use java applets,
somewhat dulls the 'lite' aspect.
But I suspect they were talking about the workflow itself.

Here is useful analysis of the field and several academic
research projects to address a problem.
Problem definition:
"This finding hinted that although existing commercial
workflow systems may be adequate for end-users, they are not
necessarily appropriate for object-oriented developers."
The author then goes on to examine Mentor-lite and several
others. He then proposes his own solution to the 'impedance
mismatch' situation -
Micro-workflow.
Interestingly enough, his sample screen shots are of a
medical application!
However, once again, we come to that frustrating point, this
system is currently implemented in smalltalk, and thus I
can't use it without a re-write. There is a limit to how
far back into creating the infra-structure any project is
willing to go, and mine does not include writing workflow
systems yet.
