No, I was referring to the literal meaning of anarchy, that is "the
absence of a ruler", not the colloquial meaning of "disorder". In fact,
open source development incorporates both aspects of anarchy. Note that
although anarchy precludes the existance of pre-ordained rulers, it does
not mean that there can't be leaders. Its just that leaders have to earn
the position through their actions (and wit, and good humour), and work
hard to retain the position, because challengers are everywhere in
anarchic societies. However, leaders who concentrate on eliminating
challengers rather than on core business don't remain leaders for long.
