One more thought/question I have since some time in my mind:
Has somebody ever done something with JINI?
I have just heard some things like: Whenever you plug a device onto
the network, an icon will appear on the control panel (flat screen?) and
opening it one is offered all necessary functions to control the device.
Isn't that similar in some way to the objects containing their own gui?
The device offers me a gui with all functions needed to control it.
Has somebody ever thought about using it not only for toasters and fridges
but also for medical devices? I plug the computer tomograph onto the network
and one second later everything is there on my panel to control it - great!
The answer is yes, but I don't know how far that has gone. Sandia Labs was
building a telemedicine platform with this kind of functionality.
But I have not read about JINI yet and don't know if all that is right.
