Since decisions and rationale behind open source development are central to the interest of this group, I think we have an opportunity to learn from your rationale for not using an open source license. I would assume that the "technique" will also be free (and open to everyone) just as all medical techniques are free and open to everyone? In other words, my understanding is that you do not have to release your software under open source license but you cannot prevent others from implementing your "technique" in another software.
