Dear colleagues

I beg your indulgence to allow me to give some information/promotion for what I
hope you will agree is a cause - even if you are not personally riveted by the
subject of health informatics standards.

This is the first release of the draft ISO EHR ad hoc group report on EHR
standards requirements. I would encourage list members with an interest in open
standards to read the draft report which can be downloaded from
http://www.openehr.org/ISOAdHoc.htm. I would also welcome comments either on
through the openhealth list and/or via the EHR ad hoc group list which has
subscribe details below. This is a temporary list which has been set up
specifically for this project and will cease to exist when the ad hoc final
report is completed and presented to ISO in August.

This draft report is being distributed to the national standards organisations
in over fifty countries for review and comment. The guidelines sent to them for
comments are as follows:

Contribution & Feedback Guidelines:

A. Objectives

The objectives of the ad hoc group are provided below to offer you a framework
from which to consider the overall content and flow of the report and upon which
to structure some of your feedback.

The specific objectives Specific objectives for the EHR ad hoc Group are to use
components of accepted models and business requirements for an EHR architecture
and its associated environment as points of reference to:
* Identify the standards requirements for each component;
* Identify where these EHR standards are being developed;
* Identify the overlaps and gaps; and
* Characterize the most appropriate type of organisation or group to undertake
the development of required standards.

B. Specific Areas of Feedback

In order to complete the work in Sections 7 (Overlaps and Gaps) and 8
(Recommendations to TC 215) of the report, we welcome contributions from each
member nation on the following sections:

a.) Section 6: Current EHR standards development work in:
? ISO TC215
? Object Management Group
? Europe - CEN/TC 251

b.) Annex 7: Nation-specific summaries about EHR standards:
? Established EHR standards,
? Emerging EHR standards, or
? Priorities for future EHR standards development.

Annex 7 also asks each contributing nation to provide three (3) recommendations
to TC215 for priority work in the area of EHR standards development.

(Note please: Your contributions in Annex 6 and 7 will be taken into
consideration along with the feedback received from the TC215 Heads of
Delegation nation contributions.)

C. Optional Contributions

Comments and suggestions for improving the body of the report are welcomed, as
well.

Please submit your feedback to, preferably, your ISO TC215 Head of Delegation
or, if that is not possible, to either Pat Jeselon or Peter Schloeffel before
June 30. Any feedback provided after that time may not be included in the final
report.
