The basic functionality is the same but the API is different. For example completion events are handled in a different way that allows better performance.
None of the current MPI implementations that use IB will run unmodified, but everyone (including OSU) is porting to the new API.
We have already started working on porting OSU MPI to the Gen2 stack.
We plan to release MVAPICH 0.9.5 (on VAPI stack) during the next 1-2 weeks. After that we will make a subsequent release of 0.9.5 on the OpenIB Gen2 stack.
