Storing patches in a directory seems confusing to me. They must be applied in a specific order for everything to work, and that knowledge is not captured. Conflicts need to be resolved anyway. If someone wants to use scripts to make their life easier, that's fine, but they shouldn't be a necessity to checking out code and creating patches using git.
