I think that is one of the key aspects of user-centricity. The user is making choices on which attributes to share. The user is determining "who" she wants to be in a given RP context.
I will echo Johannes' suggestion that we should establish a list of viable features for an internet identity system; previously I thought that "user-centric" was simple enough (as a term), but maybe if we separate the technical definitions from the human-friendly names for them, our agreement on what to do will not be confused by differences in what the names for all these features *mean*.
