I should have known better than to send the message from my phone. A few corrections and details.
I am booting from a usb image of the desktop livecd. The Adaptec card I was referring to is the 1405, and was added to provide an additional 4 sata ports for the 2.5 inch drives. The Adaptec card is the only thing without a driver based on the DDU.
