The problem with installing in IDE mode and switching to AHCI later is that disks change numbering schemes, from c0d0s* (controller - disk - slice) to c0t0d0s* (controller - target - disk - slice). In some systems that messes with grub's ability to find rpool (if I remember right, please chime in if I'm wrong).
A handy thing to avoid this issue in your case might be either the USB version of OI install or a USB CDROM drive... At that point you can set the BIOS correctly and just forget about the disappearing CD issue. Bryan Sent from my BlackBerry 10 smartphone. I think you might have missed some of the content in thread... a solaris ISO WILL NOT BOOT when that sata selector part of the BIOS is set to the one setting containing any mention of AHCI... From a previous post: [...] part of the xw8600 bios >> ,---- >> | SATA Emulation—Sets the SATA emulation mode with the following options: >> | >> | RAID + AHCI–both the RAID and AHCI OPROMs execute. This emulation >> | mode is the default and offers the best performance and most >> | functionality. >> | >> | Separate IDE Controller–offers standard SATA supports (four ports >> | only). >> | >> | Combined IDE Controller–makes the SATA controller look like an IDE >> | controller and offers best IDE compatibility (two ports only). >> `---- If left in the top mentioned setting the ISO will boot up only so far then drop you in a lame maintenance mode. Maybe you didn't notice the URL Ed posted where a declaration right from ORACLE tells you not to leave it set to RAID + AHCI and to set it to 'Separate IDE' ... I stumbled on that setting by trial error but Eds' post points to an oracle document that confirms my setting. h But, perhaps I'm missing your intent ... would not be unlikely. Do you mean to set ahci ... somewhere after install? Is one of the settings above related to your point? If so, which one? _______________________________________________ openindiana-discuss mailing list openindiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss _______________________________________________ openindiana-discuss mailing list openindiana-discuss@openindiana.org http://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/openindiana-discuss
