Check if your devices are detected by Boomer/OSS using 'audioctl' to list them. Then considering the error message regarding the I/O error, determine what is wrong with the file. When upgrading Pulseaudio I found several time that it was unable to read the previous config, in each case I simply removed everything in .config/pulse as indicated by forums.
