from all of my prior research, RDP is the best protocol, but most implementations on Linux/Unix suck big time. If you're looking for a pay for product, you might be better off looking at a full blown Windows Server, or a Cisco product.
I just wish that Sun had released the code for the SunRay software, as they had apps that would allow you to connect into your session over several devices. We still use SunRays extensively in our laboratories, but we bought up a large quantity of kit when Oracle abandoned the project. the FreeNX is a NoMachine version 3 equivalent. but IIRC the latest NoMachine client talks to the version 3 server happily.
